Get ready for Oct. 24 - Brooklyn UN Day - this year more vital than ever!

I’m super excited to announce the Third Annual UN Day Celebration at Brooklyn Borough Hall - and hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, October 24th for an inspiring and festive evening!

Free and open to all - the event will feature UN veteran Nick Birnback as keynote speaker, UNA leaders, and an open discussion about what’s ahead for the UN, US and international cooperation. Once again held in Brooklyn's distinguished Borough Hall, the program will be followed by a reception with food, drinks, music plus fantastic networking with Brooklyn activists, educators, policy professionals, government representatives, students and other neighbors.

At a time when the Trump administration threatens critical UN resources while slashing America’s own diplomatic corps, our voice in support of the UN and progressive global engagement is more important than it has ever been.

As Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated after being sworn in as the ninth UN chief, “The United States represents an important set of values, human rights, values related to freedom, to democracy…the cooperation between the U.S. and U.N. is absolutely essential for those values to be preserved in our world.”

Event Schedule - Tuesday, Oct. 24:

5 pm: Doors open at Brooklyn Borough Hall for early networking and UN-UNA materials

6 pm: Program begins with introductions, speakers and Q&A

7:30-9 pm Festive reception with music and refreshments

This year’s keynote speaker, Nick Birnback, is chief of Public Affairs for the United Nations Department for Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO). With 18 years experience at the UN, most spent in the field, he will talk about critical work in peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, economic development, public health and combating climate change. Himself a Brooklynite, Nick will highlight the UN’s contributions to U.S. national security in addition to world peace.
