United Nations Association Annual Meeting 2015 – Get Going!

Hey Brooklynites –

The United Nations Association of the United States of America hosts an annual meeting each year in our nation’s capital. This year’s annual meeting is being held from June 7-9 and I highly recommend that you sign up and go. From experience, I can tell you it is the most interesting and motivational opportunity that you’ll experience as a UNA member.

Each year chapter leaders, members and international activists of all stripes from across the country flock to DC to network, learn, and advocate for the UN. Brooklyn is not that far away to drive or hop on a plane or train headed south. Read on…

At the annual meetings you’ll hear speeches from top UN officials or U.S. leaders focused on foreign policy. Two from the past come to mind: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN, now National Security Advisor, Susan Rice.

UNA chapter leaders and other members are able to gain expert insights into UN issues such as peacekeeping, refugees, human rights, the environment and the Millennium Development Goals by attending and participating in, through Q & A sessions, expert policy panels. Workshops are held to help us improve our local chapters in the areas of advocacy, membership development and fundraising.

Last but not least, during “Day On the Hill” you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your members of congress or their staffs to tell them that you believe U.S. support for the UN and its affiliated organizations is critical in our efforts to improve global peace and security, greater respect for human rights and economic justice, and to protect our planet.

I encourage you to learn more about what you can expect attending the UNA Annual Meetings by checking out the UNA website: www.unausa.org.
